We are Shack Events, a leading bar & confectionery operator. We operate at some of the UK’s largest stadia and sporting venues, specialising in serving alternative drinks such as our own kegged spirit & mixers and cocktails, as well as heavily supporting with mainstream draught beer, craft beer and real ale. We are recruiting for a Senior People Operations Manager to join our growing and ambitious Venue Concessions business. The role will take ownership of our casual staffing operation, nation-wide and with a strong presence on site. The role will lead on people management, hitting recruitment & onboarding, scheduling, training & compliance KPIs of our event staff and collaborate with our Venue Management, Warehouse & Logistics and Event Operations departments to understand their staffing requirements and implement strategies to fulfil them, to budget.
You will oversee the day-to-day operation with the support of an experienced and talented team of Staffing Managers who are well established in their roles. It’s fundamental you have experience in managing both full time and casual staff and that a passion of yours is people. Who are we looking for?

- A crucial aspect of this role is the day-to-day management & development of your team, ensuring we are always getting the best out of our talent. You must have shown extensive experience in leading and training multiple teams consisting of both full time, casual & seasonal roles. You will be solely responsible for managing your full time teams’ time and calendar. Leading by example, setting high standards and having a granular attention to detail are crucial.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing a full time team of their own.
- Experience within high volume recruitment: We onboard hundreds of casual workers every year, and someone with experience in managing large casuals teams within the events & hospitality industry is vital.
- Compliance, due diligence and Health & Safety are core components to the role, and you will need to be heavily involved in the onboarding element of compliance, ensuring no one onsite has not signed Manual Handling and Risk Assessments before conducting any work.
- The candidate must show excellent communication, collaboration and team player mindset. It’s key you must have a “can do” attitude and are happy to step in and help the team when needed, supporting and guiding them, by being present and hands on.
Who will you be working with?
You will report directly to the Executive Head of People, and will be responsible for managing your own team. Your team currently consists of a Senior Staffing Manager and a Staffing Manager, both responsible for fulfilling their own sites and being present as the Staffing Rep. You will also work closely with the Head of Event Operations, Venue Operations Managers and the businesses Logistics & Warehousing Teams who rely heavily on our casual workforce.
Where & when will you be working?
The role will be based in our London office (Fleet Street) with regular visits to our venues. This is to ensure the day-to-day staffing operations are being managed efficiently, correctly and to the high standards we expect. You will be more office based during the winter months, but will regularly perform as a Staffing Manager during the peak Summer months when we have multiple site clashes. You will be required to regularly work weekends, bank holidays and will be able to take limited holiday between the months of May and September.
Key Responsibilities
- Staffing Strategy: with the Executive Head of People, devise & execute on all staffing strategies to ensure adequate coverage for all events & our operations while optimising resource utilisation and minimising costs.
- Recruitment and Onboarding: Oversee the recruitment process for all casual staff, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and managing the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
- Training, Development & Progression: Coordinate training opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of our event staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver exceptional service.
- Performance Management: Adhere to performance metrics and conduct regular performance evaluations for casual staff.
- Budget Management: control of casual staffing budgets that relate to socials, training & upskilling, recruitment and onboarding.
- Compliance and Legal Requirements: Ensure everyone on site receives the necessary training in order to undertake their role.
- Pay Roll: Responsible for ensuring accurate records each month for payroll; correct pay rates, all hours accounted for and minimising missed shifts.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilise data analytics and reporting tools to track key staffing metrics, analyse trends, and generate insights.
Event Day Responsibilities:
- On-Site Management: Be present at event venues to oversee the deployment of event staff.
- Problem Resolution: Act as a point of contact for event staff regarding any issues or concerns that arise during events.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct spot checks and evaluations of event staff performance throughout the event.
- Team Support: Provide support and assistance to event staff as needed.
- Post-Event Review: Conduct a debriefing session with the Venue Operations and Staffing Managers.
