Hours and Schedule: Monday to Friday: three full days (7:45‑18:00) and two half days. One day per week is spent at SGS College Filton Campus. Total: approximately 39 hours per week.

Training start date: 1 September 2026. Duration: 1 year and 6 months.

Work: Most of the apprenticeship is spent working, learning on the job with hands‑on experience.

What You’ll Do at Work:

  • Deliver the EYFS, ensuring children’s individual needs are met.
  • Support and engage with the full staff team.
  • Operate in accordance with the Inclusion policy.
  • Treat the nursery as a holistic setting, helping wherever most needed.
  • Show flexibility in working practices, undertaking duties such as domestic tasks, snack preparation, and equipment cleaning.
  • Report concerns to the manager/deputy/room leader regarding child safety, parental issues, or staffing matters, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in out‑of‑hours activities such as training and monthly staff meetings.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.

Training: Apprentice training includes time away from work for specialist learning at SGS College Filton Campus. Complete a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. Successful completion of a paediatric first‑aid qualification as required by EYFS statutory framework. Acquire Functional Skills in English and Maths, Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and British Values.

Training Provider: SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND STROUD COLLEGE

Key Training Responsibilities:

  • Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, protecting children and staff.
  • Apply legislation and policy to promote health, safety and wellbeing – covering food safety, allergy management, COSHH, and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and manage risk in the setting.
  • Teach children about managing risk and personal safety.
  • Use varied communication methods, including technology, with professionals.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with carers and educational staff.
  • Act as the key person for children and support the overall safeguarding policy.
  • Apply attachment theory to foster strong relationships with children.
  • Deliver sensitive care for children aged 0‑5 years, including SEND and EAL considerations.
  • Promote social communication and positive identity development.
  • Interpret children's emotions and guide behaviour choices.
  • Assess and adapt environments to support child‑centred learning aligned with the curriculum.
  • Create inclusive, dynamic, innovative indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Maintain a supportive emotional atmosphere, prioritising each child’s voice.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions and significant events for children.
  • Analyse observation evidence to plan holistic learning pathways.

Apprenticeship Requirements:

  • Complete a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.
  • Pass a paediatric first‑aid qualification in line with EYFS requirements.
  • Achieve entry Level 3 in English and Maths (or suitable alternative such as BSL).
  • Exit Level 3 required for those with a special educational need or legacy statement.
  • Successfully complete a domestic basic requirement: Functional Skills mathematics and English (where relevant), Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and British Values.

Qualifications: GCSE Maths and English (grade A–C or 4–9). Additional relevant qualifications and industry experience are welcomed.
