Come join our small, village playgroup, helping us to provide a fun, nurturing, educational environment for all. Offering childcare for children aged 2 1/2-4 years, term time 9-3pm.

Details

• Wage: £9,984 for first year, could increase depending on age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices.
• Hours: Approximately 3/4 days a week 9:00am–3:00pm, 24 hours a week. Days will be finalised depending on number on roll.
• Duration: 1 year 6 months.
• Start date: Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Work

Most of the apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you'll do at work

• Set up activities to welcome children, that are fun and in line with planning.
• Risk‑assess the playroom and garden to ensure safety for children.
• Meet and greet parents and children, being welcoming and friendly.
• Follow policies and procedures at all times, promoting positive behaviour.
• Engage in activities with the children, expanding on their existing knowledge.
• Work as part of a small, close‑knit team to complete daily tasks such as circle time, snack and lunch.
• Maintain a safe environment at all times.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. Apprenticeship at Stroud College – Schedule to be arranged.

Responsibilities

• Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy.
• Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting, including food safety, diets, allergies, COSHH, and emergencies.
• Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
• Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others' safety.
• Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
• Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in education and care.
• Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.

Small, village playgroup, that prides itself in the happiness of the children and staff. Numbers kept lower than ratios to allow for time, and a calmer play environment.
