Service: Children’s Residential Care Home

Service Users: Young people aged 6–17 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)

Home Size: Up to 3 young people

Reporting To: Registered Manager

Shift Pattern: 2 on / 4 off, including 10–11 sleep-ins per month

Qualification Required: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

Experience Required: Minimum 2 years’ experience in children’s residential care within the last 5 years

Overview: This is a strong opportunity for an experienced and qualified Deputy Manager or Assistant Manager to join a well-established children’s residential service. You will support the Registered Manager in leading the home, ensuring high standards of care, and promoting positive outcomes for young people who have experienced trauma, neglect, or abuse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home
  • Lead, organise, and motivate a team of Residential Child Care Workers
  • Act as a role model on shift, promoting high standards of care and therapeutic parenting
  • Plan and manage rotas, ensuring effective staffing and consistency of care
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff to improve performance and practice
  • Review care plans, risk assessments, and associated documentation
  • Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for young people
  • Work collaboratively with external professionals and multi-agency teams
  • Support with compliance, safeguarding, health and safety, and internal processes
  • Contribute to staff meetings and continuous service improvement

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Full UK manual driving licence
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns including sleep-ins
  • Strong working knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • Proven experience supporting and leading teams within residential childcare
  • Confident communication, organisation, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Desirable:

  • Experience in a Deputy Manager or senior role
  • Knowledge of therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches
  • Progression towards Level 4/5 qualifications
