You will be protecting SGN’s interests by drafting and negotiating a wide range of property and infrastructure documents for strategically important, interesting and challenging projects across Scotland. You will report to the head of the Property legal department, enjoy exposure to senior managers and be able to influence at a senior level.
We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…
- Becoming a key, trusted, legal business partner for Scottish property and infrastructure matters
- Coaching and mentoring a team of Scotland-based property lawyers for continued excellence in property matters
- Providing prompt, effective and commercial legal guidance on property and infrastructure matters to the business including how to structure complex property transactions in tandem with policy, strategy and the management of property portfolios
- Confidently preparing and negotiating property contracts, transfers, leases, servitudes and variations and dealing with post completion requirements related to a variety of high impact and strategically important infrastructure projects
- Advising on the interpretation of property and infrastructure documents and disputes arising out of the same including obtaining external legal support as required
- Promoting the excellent reputation of the SGN Legal Services Directorate and striving to continue to improve it
What you will need:
- Experienced as a property solicitor (ideally with a utilities and/or contentious background) and a valid practising certificate in Scotland
- Enthusiasm, flexibility and professional motivation
- An ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Comfort in working closely with all levels of the business including Directors and Senior Managers
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- A desire to work out of different offices and operational depots from time to time to effectively meet the needs of the business
Not sure you meet every requirement? Research shows some people – particularly women and those from underrepresented backgrounds – may hesitate to apply unless they meet every criteria. At SGN, we value diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. If this role interests you but you’re not sure you tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you. You might be just who we’re looking for – now or in the future.
