We are looking for a Director of SHE Operations to provide strategic leadership and governance across the Safety, Health & Environmental operations at SGN. Reporting to the Chief Safety Officer, you will be critical to driving forward safety standards, high performance and pushing a Zero Harm ethos in operations across SGN. You will also work closely with senior members of the Operations function, with a dotted line into the COO and Operations Leadership Team.
You will be leading across the SHE Transmission, SHE Distribution Environment and Property areas to ensure alignment, assurance and continual improvement. As a key bridge between operational SHE delivery and strategic safety leadership, your focus will be on ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence and a prioritised culture of safety and care.
What You Will Contribute- Lead SHE operations across Transmission, Distribution and Contract Partners. Providing a consistent, high-performance approach to safety, risk control and environmental protection in line with SGNβs Zero Harm initiative.
- Provide expert leadership on SHE policy, governance and regulatory compliance, ensuring SGN meets legal compliance, are audit ready and follow best practice, adhering to CDM regulations.
- Support the CSO in executive and regulatory reporting, governance forums and play a critical role in crisis response.
- Mentor and develop a robust senior SHE team, ensuring a high performing and collaborative leadership team.
- Maintain positive relationships with regulators (HSE) and other industry bodies to protect SGN and influence best practice.
- Active strategic driver of safety as a culture across the business, particularly driving safety maturity within Operations.
- At least 15 years experience in Health and Safety, with significant senior leadership experience in highly regulated and high-risk industries.
- A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Proven ability to lead multiple SHE functions, delivering service excellence through high performing and high impact teams.
- Excellent knowledge of UK safety and environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks with good understanding of CDM regulations.
- Demonstrate success in driving culture change and continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
- Excellent high-level problem solving skills, navigating non-routine and complex issues, devising solutions through analysis, experience and knowledge.
Regular travel will be required as part of this role, including into our Head Office in Farringdon, London.
