We’re looking for a dynamic leader to take responsibility for our commercial management strategy. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead and optimise the Commercial Management Team, ensuring effective governance, compliance, and performance across all operational infrastructure delivery contracts – with particular focus on the NEC suite and Construction Act compliance. Working closely with Legal, Finance, Procurement, Commercial, and Operations, as well as our external partners, you’ll deliver outcomes that are measured, compliant, and value-driven.

  • Lead the Commercial Management Team, including recruitment, development, and performance management, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the negotiation, execution, and ongoing management of contracts, ensuring alignment with SGN policies, commercial strategies, and legal requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on NEC contracts, ensuring obligations, milestones, and commercial terms are met.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of contractor payments, embedding robust controls to mitigate risk.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on contractor and contract performance, including financial implications, to inform strategic decisions and optimise outcomes.
  • Facilitate dispute resolution, working closely with Legal Counsel and senior stakeholders to protect company interests.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional managers, directors and contractors, ensuring alignment with SGN objectives.

What You Will Need

  • Skilled in senior stakeholder management across complex infrastructure delivery environments.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • RICS accreditation desirable but not essential.
  • Extensive experience in contractor, contract, and commercial management.
  • Expert knowledge of NEC contracts and Construction Act compliance.
  • Strong leadership experience managing high-performing teams.
  • Skilled in contract negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and dispute resolution.
