We are looking for a transactional Property Solicitor (ideally with some previous contentious experience) to provide legal guidance and direction to SGN’s regulated and unregulated businesses. Advising the business at all levels, you will ensure that SGN has the necessary property rights and agreements to operate its gas distribution network.

- Providing prompt, effective and commercial legal guidance on property matters to the business including how to structure complex property transactions in tandem with policy, strategy and the management of property portfolios.
- Advising on the various aspects of SGN’s statutory obligations and functions.
- Coaching and mentoring a small team of Scotland-based property lawyers for continued excellence, improvement of efficiency and sustainability in property matters.
- Confidently preparing and negotiating property contracts, transfers, leases, servitudes, licences and variations and dealing with post completion requirements.
- Providing regular reports, taking instructions from the business and managing expectations on progress.
- Promoting the excellent reputation of the SGN Legal Services Directorate and striving to continue to improve it.
What You Will Need
- At least five years of relevant, post qualification, property legal experience (ideally with a utilities and/or contentious background)
- A valid practising certificate in Scotland
- Enthusiasm, flexibility and professional motivation
- An ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Comfort in working closely with all levels of the business including Directors and Senior Managers
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- A desire to work out of different offices and operational depots from time to time to effectively meet the needs of the business.
