An opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager – Gas Network / Multi‐Occupancy Buildings (MOBs) within our Network Planning and Design department (Risk Management). You\’ll lead safety‐critical design work that directly impacts thousands of homes. The base location is St Mary Cray or Edinburgh, with travel required across SGN\’s Southern and Scotland networks for site inspections and stakeholder meetings.

What will you be doing day to day?

Managing a team of designers

Production, appraisal and approval of standard and complex designs for various gas supply types to domestic and commercial MOBs

Producing technical reports

Ensure designs are compliant with the relevant legislation and technical standards

Work with operational teams on application of designs

Manage any design variations on projects

Continual development of design processes and documentation

Work with the Building Safety Regulator, Local Authorities and other 3rd parties on planning and approval of designs

Provide technical support on MOBs as needed within SGN

Supporting the wider Network Management team with other tasks when required

What You Will Need

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or equivalent experience with a commitment to attaining accreditation)

Experience in Engineering Design is highly desirable

Experience of managing staff

History of successfully delivering projects, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong technical knowledge and understanding of the gas network

Strong organisational and prioritisation skills

Highly motivated with a flexible approach

Ability to respond and adapt quickly to change; and meet tight deadlines

Valid driving licence – role requires some travel around the UK
