Shape and influence transformation at an enterprise level. Please note: This is not a traditional Programme Manager role. You will not be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of projects or programmes. Instead, you'll sit at the centre of SGN's transformation agenda, providing oversight, governance and assurance across our entire portfolio of change initiatives.

Acting as the vital link between programme teams, Executive Leadership and the Board, you'll ensure our transformation programmes remain aligned to strategy, deliver measurable business benefits, effectively manage risk, and progress through governance and stage-gate processes with confidence and control. This is a highly visible role for someone who enjoys operating at a strategic level, bringing clarity to complexity, challenging constructively, and ensuring senior leaders have the insight they need to make informed decisions.

Alongside strong governance and stakeholder management capabilities, this role requires a highly analytical individual with advanced Excel and Power BI skills. A significant aspect of the role involves transforming complex transformation data into meaningful insights, dashboards and reports that enable Executive and Board-level decision making.

What you'll be doing

  • Act as the bridge between programme teams, Executive Leadership and the Board, providing a clear view of portfolio performance, risks, dependencies and benefits.
  • Lead portfolio governance and assurance activities, ensuring all programmes are operating within agreed frameworks and controls.
  • Coordinate and facilitate stage-gate reviews, providing challenge, guidance and recommendations to support effective decision making.
  • Prepare and support key governance forums including Corporate Services Committee (CSCo), Enterprise Design Authority (EDA) and Transformation Steering Committee (TransCo).
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business, providing coaching and support on governance, assurance and transformation best practice.
  • Lead the preparation of Executive and Board papers, ensuring complex portfolio information is translated into clear, concise and actionable insights.
  • Own the production of portfolio reporting, dashboards and executive insights, transforming complex programme data into meaningful information for senior stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards that provide visibility of programme performance, benefits realisation, risks, dependencies and strategic milestones across the transformation portfolio.
  • Analyse and interpret large and complex datasets using advanced Excel and Power BI techniques, identifying trends, risks, gaps and opportunities to support decision-making.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity and consistency of transformation portfolio data, creating a trusted single source of truth for Executive and Board reporting.
  • Oversee portfolio-wide risk and issue management, ensuring accurate tracking, escalation and mitigation of emerging risks.
  • Manage Transformation Office Directorate risk reporting, including enterprise-level reporting through Synergy and representation at Risk Review & Challenge forums.
  • Bring together inputs from Enterprise Target Operating Model (eTOM), business planning and strategic targets, translating them into a coherent benefits realisation and tracking framework across financial years.
  • Partner with Assurance and Audit teams to address findings, strengthen governance processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Build a deep understanding of the transformation landscape, identifying dependencies, challenges and opportunities across multiple portfolios and initiatives.
  • Ensure benefits are clearly defined, tracked and realised, helping the organisation maximise value from its transformation investment.

What you'll bring

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the heart of a transformation function; influencing senior stakeholders, bringing structure and challenge to complex programmes, and using data and insight to drive better decisions across the organisation. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced transformation environment and enjoys influencing at a senior level. You'll be naturally inquisitive, comfortable challenging constructively, and able to translate complex information into meaningful insight.

Experience

  • Significant experience within a Portfolio Office, Enterprise PMO, Transformation Office or portfolio governance environment.
  • Experience overseeing complex portfolios of change rather than directly managing project or programme delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience producing Executive and Board-level reporting and translating complex datasets into meaningful business insights.
  • Experience working within large-scale business transformation environments.
  • Previous experience within, or alongside, a Big Four consultancy would be advantageous.

Skills

  • Strong governance, assurance and portfolio management expertise.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interrogate, interpret and present complex data.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders.
  • Strong experience of benefits realisation, risk management and portfolio reporting.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, particularly for Executive and Board audiences.
  • Highly proficient in data analysis, reporting and visualisation, with the ability to tell a compelling story through data.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced Excel skills are essential, including the ability to manipulate large datasets, build reporting models, perform complex analysis, identify trends and produce Executive-quality reporting.
  • Strong Power BI experience is essential, including dashboard development, data modelling, KPI tracking, visualisation and creating actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Experience using PPM and portfolio management tools to manage portfolio performance and governance activities.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills, with the ability to create impactful Executive and Board-level presentations.
  • PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, APMG or equivalent portfolio/programme governance qualification.

How success will be measured

  • Transformation benefits are clearly tracked, realised and aligned to investment expectations.
  • Portfolio governance and stage-gate processes operate effectively and consistently.
  • Executive and Board stakeholders have accurate, timely and insightful reporting that supports strategic decision making.
  • Portfolio-level risks, dependencies and issues are proactively identified, managed and escalated where appropriate.
  • Transformation initiatives remain aligned to strategic objectives and value-delivery milestones.
  • High-quality Power BI dashboards and reporting provide a clear view of portfolio health, benefits delivery and programme performance across the organisation.
