Looking for more than a traditional paralegal role? If you're passionate about the law but don't want to spend every day reviewing contracts or working in one specialist area, this could be exactly what you're looking for. At SGN, our Legal Services team sits at the heart of the business, helping us make the right decisions, protect our people and uphold the highest standards of integrity.
We're looking for a curious, motivated Paralegal who wants to build a broad legal career while working on matters that genuinely make a difference. From supporting internal investigations and our confidential Speak Up programme to assisting on Health & Safety legal matters and corporate compliance, this is a role where you'll learn something new every day. You'll work with experienced legal professionals, gain exposure to a wide variety of legal issues and play an important role in helping us do the right thing for our colleagues, customers and the communities we serve.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting internal investigations by gathering evidence, reviewing documentation and helping prepare reports.
- Assisting with our Speak Up programme, ensuring concerns are handled professionally, fairly and confidentially.
- Supporting legal work relating to Health & Safety, helping protect both our people and the public.
- Undertaking legal research and translating complex information into practical advice.
- Drafting correspondence, reports, policies and legal documentation.
- Managing case files and ensuring records are accurate and well maintained.
- Working with colleagues across the business to provide practical legal support.
- Supporting wider compliance and governance projects that help keep SGN operating safely and responsibly.
Who we're looking for
We're not looking for a particular legal specialism. Instead, we're looking for someone with a solid legal foundation who is naturally inquisitive, enjoys solving problems and wants to build a career across a broad range of legal work. You'll ideally have:
- A Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
- Experience working as a Paralegal or within a legal environment.
- A genuine interest in investigations, Speak Up, compliance or Health & Safety law.
- Excellent analytical and research skills with great attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Great organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A collaborative approach and a willingness to get stuck in and learn.
Ready to make a difference?
This is an opportunity to develop your legal career in an organisation where your work has real purpose. You'll join a supportive Legal Services team that will encourage your development, expose you to a wide variety of legal work and give you the opportunity to build expertise in areas that many paralegal roles simply don't offer. Whether you're looking to broaden your legal experience or take the next step in your career, this is an opportunity to work on meaningful cases, support important investigations and help shape a business that puts safety, integrity and people first.
If that sounds like the challenge you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you. Not sure you meet every requirement? Research shows some people – particularly women and those from underrepresented backgrounds – may hesitate to apply unless they meet every criteria. At SGN, we value diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. If this role interests you but you're not sure you tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you. You might be just who we're looking for – now or in the future.
