SGN’s Procurement & Supply Chain team is seeking to employ an astute and commercially driven Lead Commercial Manager, who can thrive in a fast paced, but rewarding utility industry. Reporting into the Head of Commercial Management, this role provides a fantastic opportunity for personal and career development, with the opportunity to engage with influential commercial business performance and senior management stakeholders.

  • Applying your skill and expertise to support the business in the commercial management of long term and strategic contracts.
  • Leading and growing a team of procurement and commercial professionals.
  • Enhancing existing commercial processes and procedures to ensure robust commercial management.
  • Introduce value engineering initiatives to drive value and efficiency for both SGN and their supply chain.
  • Develop and lead team to deliver sustainable and industry leading contract strategies.
  • Manage contract administration across varying contract forms including NEC3/4 and bespoke commercial agreements on construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop tender documentation (including draft contracts and bills of quantities) to support successful delivery of projects.
  • Liaise with a wide range of senior stakeholders including Legal, Operations and Finance.
  • Contribute to reporting on commercial performance for business directors and stakeholders.
  • Understand varying contract risk profiles and incorporate relevant mitigation measures.

What you will need:

  • A background in Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Commercial Management or Law.
  • Educated at degree level would be desirable but is not mandatory.
  • Innovative commercial thinking to deliver value in a regulated environment with enthusiasm to provide a high-quality procurement and commercial service to senior business stakeholders.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines, under pressure whilst still delivering quality output and prioritising requirements.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders and to influence and negotiate with users outside your own sphere of responsibility.
  • A willingness to travel across our Southern network to meet on-going stakeholder and supplier demands.
  • IT skills, including knowledge of all MS Office applications, and purchase to pay systems.
