The CRIW Apprenticeship Programme offers a paid, 12-month opportunity to gain practical experience in the media industry while working towards a recognised qualification. As a CRIW Apprentice, you will work across a variety of productions, supporting teams in a junior capacity while developing technical, professional and workplace skills. This role reflects the flexible and fast-paced nature of freelance media work and provides structured training alongside hands-on experience. The role may involve working long and unsociable hours. You don’t need prior experience of working in production, but you definitely need to be motivated, enthusiastic and hard working.

During the 12 months you will:

  • Work as a junior member of the CRIW team, supporting production activities as directed by your supervisor
  • Complete tasks to agreed deadlines and quality standards
  • Attend eight-weekly monitoring meetings with the Sgil Cymru Head of Training
  • Meet regularly with your industry assessor to build your competence unit portfolio
  • Complete all elements of the Apprenticeship Framework, including coursework and assessments
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and a willingness to learn
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative working environment
  • Commit to the duration of the apprenticeship scheme (June 2026-27)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be based in south Wales and have the legal right to work in the UK and be available and willing to travel and work on productions across south Wales at various locations as well as at the Sgil Cymru Training centre (Great Point Studios, Rumney, Cardiff, CF3 2GH).
  • Hold a driving licence and personal transport.
  • You must not be in full-time education as of the 1st of June 2026.
  • The CRIW Apprentice Scheme is aimed at people who have not completed a degree. However, you may be eligible to apply if your degree is not in the same occupational area as the apprenticeship programme.
  • Have at least 4 GCSEs at grades A* to C (English and Maths preferred) or equivalent.
  • You do not require previous industry experience.

  • Basic IT confidence, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
  • Ability to follow guidance and work effectively within a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise, use initiative and prioritise tasks
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Ability to work in a busy environment, under pressure and manage deadlines
