We're partnering with a global financial services organisation that's investing heavily in the modernisation of its technology estate. We're looking for an experienced Software Developer who's worked within Software Architecture frameworks and platforms that developers can build on. This opportunity is suited to someone who has been responsible for defining the architecture of enterprise software platforms that engineering teams build upon. You'll have owned architectural decisions, established technology standards, designed scalable integration patterns and provided technical direction across multiple development teams.

Working within a complex capital markets environment, you'll shape the future architecture of business-critical trading platforms while remaining close enough to engineering to influence how solutions are delivered.

The Role

Working closely with engineering teams, product owners and senior stakeholders, you'll be responsible for the overall software architecture of a large-scale trading technology estate. You'll:

  • Own the architectural vision for multiple business-critical trading platforms
  • Define architectural standards, design principles and engineering best practice
  • Design the frameworks, integration patterns and platform capabilities that development teams build upon
  • Produce target-state architectures, architecture decision records (ADRs) and technical roadmaps
  • Lead architectural governance across engineering teams
  • Drive platform modernisation using cloud-native and event-driven architectures
  • Define API, messaging and integration strategies
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and support operational resilience requirements
  • Mentor senior engineers and help develop the next generation of technical leaders

Experience and Skills Required:

  • 10+ years' software engineering experience with C#/.NET, SQL, Python
  • 3+ years in a dedicated Software Architect, Solution Architect or Lead Engineer role
  • Experience owning the architecture of enterprise software platforms used by multiple engineering teams
  • A proven track record of producing architecture documentation, target-state designs and technical roadmaps
  • Experience chairing or contributing to architecture governance and technology strategy
  • C# / .NET development expertise within Azure cloud environments and preferably from within the financial services space i.e. capital markets, investment banking, e-trading
  • SQL Server and Software architecture and solution design
  • Event-driven architectures and real-time data pipelines
  • Microservices and containerised applications
  • Kafka and/or IBM MQ
  • API design and systems integration
  • FIX Protocol with CCP or vendor connectivity

Highly desirable experience:

  • Trading platforms and low-latency systems, particularly around Derivatives etc.
  • Real-time market data and High-performance distributed systems
  • DevSecOps and CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Knowledge of Financial regulations such as MiFID II, EMIR, DORA or CFTC

This is an opportunity to join an organisation where architecture is seen as a genuine strategic capability rather than simply governance. You'll have the autonomy to influence technology direction, work on complex distributed systems processing high volumes of real-time data, and collaborate with talented engineers solving challenging technical problems.
