Role Description

This is a full‑time, on‑site Sales Staff role based at the SG Petch dealership in Durham. The Sales Staff member will welcome and engage customers in the showroom, identify their needs, and present suitable vehicles and finance options. Responsibilities include conducting test drives, preparing and explaining quotations, handling negotiations, and completing sales documentation accurately. The role also involves maintaining product knowledge across all represented marques, using dealership systems to manage leads and follow‑ups, and supporting promotional activities and events. The Sales Staff member will work closely with colleagues across sales, service and administration to ensure a smooth customer journey from initial enquiry through to delivery and after‑sales follow‑up.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to listen, understand needs and provide clear, helpful information.
  • Sales or retail experience, including working to targets, handling enquiries and managing the full sales process from introduction to closing.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with confidence in presenting vehicle features, finance options and offers to a wide range of customers.
  • Basic digital and administrative skills, including using dealership CRM systems, email and standard office software to update records and manage follow‑ups.
  • Good organisational and time‑management abilities, with attention to detail when preparing paperwork, quotations, and vehicle handover documentation.
  • Interest in the automotive sector and willingness to keep up‑to‑date with product ranges, features and developments across the SG Petch marques.
  • Ability to work on‑site as part of a team, including flexibility to work weekends and peak trading periods as required.
  • Valid UK driving licence and a safe driving record.
  • Previous experience in automotive sales or a similar customer‑facing environment is an advantage but not essential; training will be provided.
