The Role

This is a senior, influential technical leadership position offering national and international exposure. As a Technical Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping industry standards, supporting members, and driving best practice across education, sustainability, and professional development. The role combines deep technical expertise with industry leadership, acting as a trusted technical authority while helping to guide the future direction of the sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
  • Lead and manage the organisation’s technical helpline, providing expert advice by phone and email
  • Identify emerging technical, regulatory, and industry issues and propose practical solutions
  • Chair and facilitate technical committees, including sustainability-focused groups, and manage follow-up actions
  • Develop, create, and promote technical CPD content, including submissions for RIBA approval
  • Responsibility for managing the technical budget
  • Explore and develop new revenue streams (CPD, sponsorship, training)
  • Industry Influence & Engagement
    • Represent the organisation on UK and European committees, including BSI and CEN
    • Contribute to the development of technical standards and regulations
    • Build and maintain strong partnerships to enhance member value and industry visibility
  • Education & CPD
    • Project manage a technical webinar programme, including sourcing speakers and managing live Q&A
    • Develop and deliver a Registered Professional CPD programme, including authorship of core CPD material
    • Support CPD delivery both online and through regional hubs
    • Collaborate closely on professional qualification pathways and education programmes
    • Contribute to the development of new qualifications and technical resources
  • Publications & Communications
    • Produce accurate, engaging technical content for e-bulletins, technical briefings, best practice guides, and sustainability updates
    • Maintain and oversee the technical content of the organisation’s website
    • Support marketing and communications activity with technical expertise
  • Awards & Events
    • Member of a RIBA-affiliated specification awards working party, including project inspections, judging, event support and delivery
    • Assist with sponsorship opportunities
    • Support wider industry events, including AGMs, trade shows, and education awards

    About You

    • DipGAI qualified, with Registered Professional status preferred
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience within architectural ironmongery, doors, access control, or a related construction field
    • Excellent working knowledge of UK and international standards
    • Strong problem-solving ability with clear, concise technical communication
    • Experience creating and delivering CPD and technical training
    • Confident representing an organisation at high-level industry forums
    • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
    • Proven project management and stakeholder engagement experience
    • Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, and related platforms
    • Collaborative, organised, and commercially aware
