Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) - The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) to join our team in the pharmaceutical industry. In this role, you will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of our production equipment, facilities, and utilities. While your primary focus will be on electrical systems, you will also need a strong understanding of mechanical maintenance to support a multidisciplinary approach to equipment reliability.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical components, including PLCs, motor controls, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Work with low-voltage and high-voltage systems (up to 440V), ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct mechanical maintenance tasks, including pumps, conveyors, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Collaborate with process engineering and production teams to minimise downtime and improve equipment performance.
  • Participate in the installation, modification, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols and company procedures at all times.
  • Provide technical support and training to production operators when necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and efficiency.
  • Assist with contractor management.

Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant medical device standards and approved procedures.
  • Adhere to all quality, health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Assist with Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) investigations and resolutions when engineering input is required.
  • Ensure all documents and records meet regulatory compliance requirements.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong electrical knowledge, with experience in PLC fault finding, automation, control panels, and instrumentation.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, with experience working on rotating machinery, pumps, gearboxes, and pneumatics.
  • Previous experience in a pharmaceutical, food, FMCG, textiles, or other regulated manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with GMP standards and working within cleanroom environments is an advantage.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, steam boilers, and water treatment would be beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and Microsoft Office.
