About the Role: We are seeking a motivated and driven Health & Safety professional who leads by example and is passionate about creating a positive, proactive safety culture. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and influence to inspire behavioural change across the organisation, driving continuous improvement and embedding a strong health and safety mindset at every level. Duties to include:

  • Health & Safety Leadership
    • Lead the development of a positive and proactive HSE culture across all levels of the business.
    • Deliver processes, systems, and programmes aligned with industry best practice.
    • Act as the SME for the HSE Committee and support its ongoing development.
    • Provide coaching, guidance, training and task-specific instruction to operational and managerial personnel.
    • Deliver and maintain an effective new-starter HSE induction programme.
  • Risk Management & Compliance
    • Conduct site HSE inspections and internal audits.
    • Undertake and maintain PUWER assessments for all equipment.
    • Conduct risk assessments for new and existing equipment, processes and activities.
    • Maintain and report compliance registers and KPIs on a monthly basis.
    • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all HSE, QMS and medical device requirements where applicable.
  • ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Responsibilities
    • Maintain, improve and develop all documentation associated with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
    • Lead preparation for and management of surveillance audits and recertification audits.
    • Ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) arising from audits.
    • Facilitate management review processes and ensure continual improvement activities are delivered.
  • Environmental Management
    • Manage and maintain the company's Environmental Permit, ensuring full compliance with permit conditions.
    • Coordinate monitoring, reporting and engagement with environmental regulators as required.
    • Lead initiatives focused on pollution prevention, waste reduction, carbon reduction and sustainability.
    • Ensure environmental risks are identified, assessed and controlled.
  • Performance Measurement & Reporting
    • Produce and report monthly HSE KPIs through established dashboards.
    • Contribute to the review and revision of HSE policies, plans, procedures and forms.
    • Promote innovation and continuous improvement across all HSE disciplines.

Key skills / abilities:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate essential.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a health and safety professional, ideally on a large-scale industrial or COMAH site.
  • Experience developing or managing ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Proven experience managing Environmental Permits.
  • Qualified to conduct PUWER assessments.
  • Internal auditor qualification for HS & E (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001).
  • Strong influencing and communication skills; proven ability to deliver change.

Desirable: Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
