Job Description: Interim Director of Operations
Location: Birmingham (with remote working/travel as required)
Flexible/Hybrid Working: Yes
Day Rate: Circa £1000 per day (Dependant on experience)
Contract: 3–6 months
Interim Director of Operations required for our Prestigious, Not For Profit client based in the heart of Birmingham. My client is looking for a professional contractor to be able to join the team imminently. To be successful within this role, you will have worked within a similar position within a 'regulated' environment.
Ideally, you will be local to Birmingham and able to travel on-site 1/2 days a week.
Overview of role:
As a member of the Executive team, you will oversee the delivery of regulatory operations and investigative functions. This includes Licensing, Compliance, and Enforcement, as well as specialist units such as Intelligence, Anti-Money Laundering, and sector-specific intelligence teams. These critical and expanding areas are made up of over 130 employees, supporting the organisation’s enhanced regulatory remit.
You will play a key role in delivering the Corporate Strategy and fostering joined-up solutions that make the organisation a great place to work.
Additionally, you will play a vital role in the organisation’s transformation journey, collaborating with the Executive team to lead significant strategic change both internally and externally.
Deliverables:
- Leadership: Foster a positive and productive working environment. Recruit, develop, and coach staff, motivating them to achieve objectives while delivering expert professional advice and services.
- Regulatory Innovation: Lead teams to develop impactful and proactive regulatory programmes that meet statutory objectives and raise industry standards.
- Transparency and Accountability: Promote a culture of continuous improvement, openness, accountability, and collaboration, demonstrating strong leadership principles.
- Effective Communication: Establish and nurture relationships with other regulators, regional and national bodies, and relevant organisations to further the organisation’s objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Driving the organisation’s corporate strategy priorities, including:
- Raising standards within the regulated sector.
- Delivering annual business plans and budgets aligned to strategic priorities.
- Leading the development of licensing and compliance approaches.
- Managing complex portfolios of regulatory operations, including investigations and enforcement.
- Developing and delivering a long-term strategy
Requisites for this role:
You will:
- Demonstrate proven experience in a senior leadership role.
- Have a strong track record of managing complex regulatory issues with excellent judgement and delivery.
- Possess a deep understanding of regulatory environments (sector-specific knowledge is not essential but experience in delivering regulatory outcomes is required).
- Exhibit excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Lead teams through change to achieve improved service delivery.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, including coaching, managing performance, and delivering organisational objectives.
- Manage diverse functions within a major area of the organisation.
- Understand the economic, commercial, and political factors affecting the regulated sector.
