We are working with a well-established manufacturing business based in Shropshire, close to the West Midlands border, to appoint a hands-on Finance Director. This role will particularly suit a Financial Controller or Finance Manager who is ready to take their first step into a Finance Director position. This is a broad, operational finance leadership role within a stable manufacturing environment, offering full ownership of the finance function and close day-to-day interaction with the senior leadership team. This role is based fully on-site, five days per week.
The Role
- Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the effective day-to-day leadership of the finance function, ensuring robust reporting, controls and commercial insight.
- Full ownership of the finance function, including financial reporting, controls, cashflow and compliance.
- Leading, mentoring and developing a finance team of four.
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts and budgets.
- Providing accurate and timely financial information to support operational and commercial decision-making.
- Reviewing and improving finance processes, systems and internal controls.
- Acting as the senior finance contact for auditors, banks and external advisors.
- Working closely with the Managing Director to support the ongoing performance of the business.
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Currently operating as a Financial Controller, Senior Financial Controller or Finance Manager, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Comfortable in a hands-on role, remaining close to the numbers and day-to-day finance operations.
- Experience managing and developing a small finance team.
- Strong attention to detail with a pragmatic, commercial mindset.
- Ambitious and motivated to step into a broader leadership role with increased responsibility.
