Having successfully established the foundations of its enterprise data platform, the business is seeking an experienced Data Platform Lead to take ownership of its future development and strategic direction.
This is a rare opportunity to inherit a modern Microsoft Fabric environment, lead a talented Data Engineering team and play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s long-term data, AI and analytics strategy. If you are looking for a role where you can genuinely influence technology decisions—rather than simply executing someone else’s roadmap—this is that opportunity.
Why Join?
This is a dynamic business that is committed to continuous innovation and growth. Over the next 12 to 24 months, you will help drive:
- The ongoing evolution of an enterprise Microsoft Fabric platform.
- Significant investment in AI and modern data capabilities.
- Expansion of data capabilities across multiple business functions.
- Continuous improvement of architecture, governance and engineering standards.
You will have genuine ownership of the platform and the autonomy to influence its development, working closely with senior technology leaders and business stakeholders.
The Role
As Data Platform Lead, you will be the technical owner of the organisation’s Microsoft Fabric platform, ensuring it remains scalable, secure and fully capable of supporting the business as it continues to grow. You will lead a small, high-performing team of Data Engineers while maintaining hands-on involvement in architecture, engineering standards and platform strategy. Working collaboratively across engineering, analytics and the wider business, you will ensure data remains trusted, accessible and ready to support advanced analytics, AI initiatives and future business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and roadmap for the Microsoft Fabric platform.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of Data Engineers and Data Management specialists.
- Define architecture, engineering standards and platform best practices.
- Drive continuous improvements across data quality, governance and observability.
- Design scalable ingestion, transformation and storage solutions.
- Ensure the platform is optimised for future AI and advanced analytics initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Support integration of new systems and future acquisitions into the enterprise data platform.
- Champion a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
We seek a candidate who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership and architectural insight. Ideally, you will have experience in:
- Microsoft Fabric within an enterprise environment.
- Azure Data Engineering, including Azure Data Factory, Synapse and Lakehouse architecture.
- SQL, Python and PySpark.
- Enterprise data platform architecture and design.
- Medallion Architecture and modern data engineering best practices.
- Azure DevOps, CI/CD and engineering governance.
- Leading and developing technical engineering teams.
- Building trusted, scalable cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience supporting AI initiatives or preparing enterprise data platforms for AI workloads would be highly advantageous.
The Opportunity
This is a highly visible leadership role offering the chance to shape the technical direction of an organisation that regards data as a strategic asset. You will inherit a well-established Microsoft Fabric platform, lead an experienced engineering team and play a central role in the next phase of the company’s technology strategy, with significant investment planned across data, AI and digital transformation.
