SF Engineering are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will be a key member of the Engineering Department, providing expertise in the design, manufacture, and repair of complex machinery. The role will support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design of machinery, including stators, rotors, assemblies, upgrades, and retrofit projects
- Provide engineering leadership across all project phases, working closely with clients and stakeholders
- Use simulation and modelling tools to validate performance and compliance with requirements
- Oversee and participate in testing activities, both in-factory and on-site
- Carry out diagnostics, condition analysis, and life-cycle evaluations, producing clear technical reports
- Deliver service and maintenance support to ensure reliability and long-term asset performance
- Partner with tendering and project management teams on bids, proposals, and execution
- Develop and implement test methodologies for dynamic machinery testing, analysing performance data
- Perform root cause analysis on machinery failures and recommend corrective actions
- Produce repair instructions and technical documentation to guide the recovery of failed or degraded equipment.
Skills and Experiences:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in detailed design of rotating machinery such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, or similar equipment
- Strong expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and testing methodologies
- Collaborate with CAD engineers and draughtsmen to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing processes
- Proficient in diagnostics, failure analysis, and life assessment of machinery
- Knowledge of manufacturing, commissioning, and service activities for large-scale equipment
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach
- Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers
