Location: Head Office - Derby

SF Partners are delighted to be supporting a new client based in Derby with the appointment of an ambitious and commercially focused Business Development Manager to play a key role in the next phase of their growth strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction-sector professional to drive new business activity across key target markets, develop strategic partnerships, and secure profitable projects that enhance the company's reputation and market share.

The successful candidate will combine strong industry knowledge, relationship‑building expertise, and commercial acumen to deliver sustainable revenue growth and long‑term business success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a business development strategy alongside the Directors, aligned to wider company growth objectives
  • Identify and pursue new markets, sectors, clients, and revenue opportunities
  • Monitor tender portals, procurement pipelines, and framework opportunities to maintain a strong pipeline
  • Prepare business cases, forecasts, pipeline reports, and market intelligence to support decision‑making
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with framework providers, architects, consultants, developers, and end users
  • Work collaboratively with estimating, pre‑construction, and operational teams to support winning bids and proposals
  • Lead presentations, capability meetings, and proposal submissions where required
  • Review tender outcomes and implement improvements to maximise future success rates
  • Stay informed on competitor activity, sector trends, legislation, and market changes
  • Produce regular reports covering pipeline activity, risks, opportunities, and market performance
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven success in a business development role within the construction industry, ideally with a main contractor
  • Strong understanding of construction delivery, procurement routes, frameworks, and tendering processes
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to build trusted, long‑term relationships with senior stakeholders and decision‑makers
  • Experience working with major frameworks such as SCAPE, Pagabo, Crown Commercial Service, and CWM
  • Strong network of contacts across the construction sector
  • Commercially driven, proactive, and self‑motivated with a results‑focused mindset
  • Confident and credible communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and effective pipeline management
