Job Description
The Year End Accountant is responsible for preparing and finalising the company’s annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
This role involves performing detailed reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and supporting the audit process.
The post holder works closely with finance teams to gather relevant information, identify discrepancies, and provide clear financial reports to management within agreed deadlines.
- Job Duties
- Prepare and complete year end accounts and financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations, including balance sheet reconciliations, to ensure data accuracy.
- Review and post adjusting journal entries necessary to correct financial records.
- Assist with the preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for external audits.
- Analyse financial information to identify trends, anomalies, or potential issues requiring management attention.
- Collaborate with other members of the finance team to gather and verify financial data.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies throughout the year end process.
- Provide clear and timely communication to management regarding the status of year end activities.
- Support any ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required during the year end period.
- Required Qualifications
- Recognised accounting qualification (such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and regulatory frameworks.
Education
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline is preferred but not essential if relevant professional qualifications and experience are demonstrated.
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience working in a finance or accounting role with responsibility for year end accounts preparation.
- Experience working within a corporate or professional services environment is advantageous.
- Exposure to audit processes and liaising with external auditors.
- Proven ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong organisational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely.
- Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Previous temporary or contract experience in similar year end accounting roles.
- Familiarity with tax compliance requirements related to year end processes.
