About the Role
SF Express is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Customs Clearance Specialist to join our UK operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling import and export customs declarations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting efficient customs clearance operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, process, and submit import and export customs declarations through the UK Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
- Review shipping documents, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs-related information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, UK customs procedures, and relevant import/export requirements.
- Handle customs clearance exceptions, shipment holds, documentation discrepancies, and customs enquiries.
- Liaise with HMRC, freight forwarders, carriers, warehouse teams, and internal departments to resolve clearance issues.
- Monitor customs clearance progress and ensure shipments are processed accurately and within required timelines.
- Maintain accurate customs records and support internal compliance checks and audits.
- Assist in improving customs clearance procedures and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- At least 1–3 years of experience in UK customs clearance, freight forwarding, or international logistics.
- Practical experience with UK import/export customs declarations and CDS.
- Good understanding of UK customs regulations, commodity codes, customs valuation, and import/export documentation.
- Familiarity with customs clearance systems such as Descartes, ASM Sequoia, or similar platforms is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Mandarin Chinese language skills are an advantage.
- Previous experience in air freight, express delivery, or e-commerce logistics is preferred.
