We are seeking a Safety Advisor to support the safe delivery of the M5 project. This role is responsible for identifying, coordinating and managing site safety risks, while ensuring compliance with Seymour Whyte’s safety systems, client requirements and relevant legislation. As a key member of the project team, the Safety Advisor will provide guidance and support to site personnel, promote best-practice safety behaviours, carry out inspections and incident investigations, and help foster a proactive and positive safety culture across the project.
M5 Westbound Upgrade Project: Seymour Whyte has been awarded the design and construct contract by Transport for NSW to deliver the M5 Westbound Upgrade in Moorebank, Sydney. Valued between $250M–$300M and running from 2025 to 2028, this major transport infrastructure project will enhance one of south-west Sydney’s key arterial routes, supporting economic and residential growth while improving connectivity across the region. The project will remove a critical traffic weave between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway, reducing congestion and improving network reliability. Key works include a new three-lane bridge over the Georges River and adjacent rail lines, enhanced freight access to the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal, and new pedestrian and cyclist links, improving access to the Liverpool CBD and delivering safer, more efficient travel for all road users.
About the Role:
- Mentor and support site personnel to uplift safety performance and strengthen a positive safety culture
- Conduct site safety inspections, audits and reviews, providing recommendations and corrective actions
- Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining project safety systems, plans and procedures
- Provide timely and practical safety advice to project teams on risk management and incident prevention
- Lead or support investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring accurate reporting and corrective measures
- Manage injury rehabilitation and return‑to‑work processes for project personnel
- Maintain current knowledge of WHS legislation, industry standards and safety innovations to ensure compliance
About you:
- Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Safety Advisor or similar role within civil construction
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, incident investigation processes and safety management systems
- Relevant certifications such as ICAM, First Aid, MHFA, RTW Coordination, Working at Heights, Confined Spaces, Traffic Management etc.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with site teams, subcontractors and client representatives
- Proficient use of Microsoft Suite and a proactive, collaborative attitude towards safety
- Current C-Class Driver’s Licence
