An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and strategic finance professional to join a large and complex organisation in the West Midlands as Deputy Head of Reporting. This is a pivotal interim role, providing leadership across statutory and regulatory reporting, capital accounting, and tax functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage teams responsible for statutory, regulatory, and corporate financial reporting.
  • Oversee preparation of annual statutory accounts and ensure full compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage audit evidence submissions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely VAT and corporation tax reporting, working with tax advisors as required.
  • Support financial planning, including cash flow forecasting and capital programme oversight.
  • Drive continuous improvements in financial systems and processes.
  • Provide clear technical accounting guidance and ensure compliance with HE SORP and related standards.
  • Deputise for the Head of Reporting as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) with substantial post-qualification experience.
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-performing finance teams in complex organisations.
  • Strong background in statutory reporting and strategic financial management.
  • Proficient in financial systems and Excel, with the ability to interpret and present complex data clearly.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in or with external audit firms is highly desirable.
