Fire Safety Team Overview

Fire safety is a critical component of our operations, safeguarding patients, staff, visitors and infrastructure across multiple clinical and non-clinical settings.

Join Our Team

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fire Safety Officer to join our established Fire Safety Team, providing professional fire safety expertise across a multi-site acute healthcare environment. This is an operational role supporting the delivery of fire safety compliance, risk management and assurance. You will act as a competent person for fire safety, working closely with estates, clinical and operational teams to ensure safe and compliant environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake and maintain fire risk assessments, fire plans and evacuation strategies across all managed premises.
  • Monitor compliance with fire safety legislation, standards and guidance, supporting corrective actions where required.
  • Maintain accurate fire safety records and contribute to assurance reporting, risk management processes and preventative planning.
  • Investigate fire incidents, near misses and false alarms, producing reports and recommending proportionate actions.
  • Coordinate routine fire safety activities including fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, drills, inspections and equipment oversight.
  • Provide specialist advice to support maintenance, refurbishment and capital projects, ensuring fire safety considerations are appropriately addressed.
  • Liaise with Fire and Rescue Services, regulatory bodies, contractors and other stakeholders regarding compliance and inspections.
  • Deliver fire safety training, including inductions, refresher training and fire warden development.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate fire drills and evacuation exercises, identifying improvements where required.
  • Work collaboratively across estates, health and safety and operational teams to support effective fire safety management across sites.

Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant fire safety experience within a large or complex organisation.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety legislation and its application in practice.
  • Experience undertaking fire risk assessments, audits and compliance activity.
  • Experience delivering training and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide clear, proportionate and practical fire safety advice.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage workload and competing priorities.
  • Educated to HNC/HND/Degree level (or equivalent), with relevant fire safety or health and safety qualifications.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body and commitment to continuing professional development.
