You'll play a key role in making sure employees across the business are competent, confident and safe when carrying out their roles.

Reporting to the Head of HR and working closely with the Learning & Development Co-ordinator, you'll take ownership of delivering high-quality, practical training across a range of workplace equipment and safety-critical activities.

What will you be doing?

  • Delivering practical and classroom-based training across FLT, cranes, abrasive wheels, material handling, MEWP and PASMA, as well as IOSH Working Safely and Managing Safely.
  • Assessing employee competence through practical demonstrations, observation and questioning, providing constructive feedback and identifying any further training needs.
  • Planning and delivering onboarding, refresher and competency-based training around operational and production requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining lesson plans, course materials, assessments and refresher content to ensure training remains engaging, consistent and compliant.
  • Working closely with HR, L&D, Production, Maintenance and Health & Safety teams to identify training requirements and maintain accurate training records and competency matrices.
  • Ensuring all training is delivered in line with current legislation, recognised guidance, risk assessments, company procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Supporting managers and supervisors to ensure employees are appropriately trained and competent before undertaking safety-critical activities.
  • Promoting positive and safe working behaviours and escalating any concerns around equipment, working practices or competency.
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of training and identifying opportunities to continually improve the learning experience and standards across the business.
  • Keeping your own instructor knowledge and qualifications up to date through ongoing CPD and refresher training.

This is a hands-on role where you'll have a genuine impact on workplace safety, employee development and operational standards.

What skills do we need?

  • We're looking for an experienced practical trainer who is confident working within a manufacturing, engineering, heavy industry or similarly operational environment.
  • Proven experience delivering practical workplace training and competency assessments.
  • Current instructor qualifications, or the ability and willingness to obtain them, across areas such as FLT, cranes, MEWP, PASMA, abrasive wheels and material handling.
  • A strong understanding of workplace health & safety, risk assessments, safe systems of work and equipment competency.
  • Experience delivering both practical and classroom-based training.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to different learners and levels of experience.
  • A confident and engaging coaching style, combined with the ability to maintain clear standards and expectations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan training around production and operational priorities.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience maintaining training records, competency matrices and compliance documentation.
  • A recognised training, health & safety or IOSH qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience within a regulated or safety-critical environment would be highly beneficial.

Above all, we're looking for someone who is credible, approachable and passionate about developing people, while never compromising on safety or standards.

What's on offer?

  • Salary of up to Β£50,000
  • Extremely generous bonus package paid quarterly
  • Flexible start and finish times
  • Pension matched up to 8%
