Sewell Wallis are partnering exclusively with a market leading, high growth company based near Doncaster, in their search for a Junior Financial Controller. This is a newly created position, which is required due to a sustained period of growth, combined with exciting plans on the horizon. As the business continues to expand, there is significant opportunity for career progression and advancement within the role and wider finance leadership structure.
Reporting to the Finance Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in leading the day-to-day finance operations and supporting commercial growth. Your responsibility will include full ownership of end to end management accounts, business partnering with the wider commercial and operational departments as well as overseeing the transactional finance team, while driving process improvements.
What will you be doing?
- Production of full month-end management accounts from start to finish, including accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Assist the Finance Director in preparing monthly board packs, financial analysis, and ad-hoc commercial reporting.
- Monitor cash flow, budgets, and operational performance metrics.
- Act as the primary finance business partner to non-finance operational and commercial teams (tour coordinators, sales, and operations).
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 3 finance team members.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the transactional team (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Credit Control).
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the finance function.
- Provide financial insights to assist decision-making on bespoke group trips and travel packages.
- Evaluate existing workflows and design/implement process improvements to boost efficiency.
- Establish, enhance, and maintain robust internal financial controls across the business.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns accurately and on time.
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure full statutory compliance.
- Manage regulatory reporting obligations.
- Lead annual audit preparation and act as the primary point of contact for external accountants and auditors.
What skills will you need?
- Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified / finalist / near-qualified.
- Proven experience in end-to-end management accounting, team supervision and operating in a fast paced environment.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders.
- Proactive, self-motivated self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset, eager to make a difference, build strong partnerships, and demonstrate high attention to detail.
