Management Accountant in Derby

Sewell Wallis is recruiting a Management Accountant for a household-name business in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, that has grown steadily year after year. The role has come up because the current postholder has been promoted, and they’re looking for someone to take full responsibility for the preparation of the management accounts for the largest entity within the group.

You’ll take over a capable, well-established team of three. You’ll join a finance function that’s busy, friendly and fun to be part of, in a business with a great culture where people stay, grow and enjoy coming to work. What will you be doing?

• You’ll report to the Finance Manager and own the management accounts and month-end.
• You’ll also be a trusted source of financial insight for colleagues across the business.
• You’ll explain what the numbers mean and why they matter and help shape decisions in a business that keeps moving forward.
• Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting wider financial reporting.
• Owning the month-end close and making sure deadlines are met.
• Completing balance sheet reconciliations and getting to the bottom of variances.
• Preparing and posting journals, including accruals and prepayments.
• Providing analysis and commentary that supports business decisions.
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting.
• Producing ad hoc reports and analysis.
• Supporting the Finance Manager with projects and wider reporting.
• Leading, motivating and developing a strong team of three.
• Improving processes and reporting, and bringing fresh ideas to the team.

What skills do we need?

• Qualified, Part-qualified (CIMA or ACCA) or qualified by experience; it’s the experience that matters.
• Strong management accounts and month-end experience.
• Experience working within manufacturing or a heavily stock focused business.
• Proven experience leading and developing a team.
• Solid knowledge of reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Strong Excel skills and a sharp eye for detail.
• Good organisation, with the ability to take ownership and deliver.
• A confident communicator with a commercial mindset.
• Ambition and a real interest in a long-term future with the business.
