We are bringing our design capability back in-house to provide better value for money for our customers and enhancing our expert client capability. As part of this innovation, we are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our Water Treatment Design Team.

This role can be based on any of our capital hubs, Shrewsbury, Derby or Coventry.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In this role you’ll manage the individual projects to achieve a technical solution for Water Treatment facilities for Severn Trent Water. During the early stages of a project you’ll undertake feasibility evaluation/assessment for projects; as the schemes progress you will be creating and evaluating designs & specifications for tender through in-house design and through utilisation of consultant design teams.

You will come up with innovative design solutions to support the delivery of our projects & you will need to think about the wider context of our changing environment, climate change pledge and carbon commitments.

Teamwork is key across Capital Design and Delivery so we would want you to demonstrate leadership and assist with defining team goals and actively drive problem solving/information processing and support the team in translating this information concisely.

It is critical for us that you are a confident communicator and have good leadership and stakeholder management skills, as you will need to liaise with the stakeholders, build relationships and influence at mid and senior leadership levels.

To do this role you will have experience of designing UK clean water treatment works and a robust understanding of CDM regulations in the design process.

You will deliver projects to programme, within budget, to the correct quality standards. Be part of developing the future design team!

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You’ll come equipped with your design experience and you’ll prepare conceptual designs to create innovative and efficient solutions. You’ll also need to engage with appropriate stakeholders in order to understand the root cause of the business problem so it’s very important for us you are confident to liaise with the stakeholders and build relationships and influence at mid and senior leadership levels.

You’ll be degree qualified and showing your professional commitment as a member of one of the engineering Institutions or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on.

Having water industry background would be great but not essential; however, experience in treatment processes with a civil, mechanical or process background would be beneficial.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment.
