Within our Capital Design and Delivery department, we are looking for a Principal Civil Design Engineer to join our Waste Infra team based in Raynesway (Derby).

Everything You Need to Know

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Principal Design Engineer will provide design and oversight of technical solutions for Waste Infrastructure schemes for Severn Trent’s design department. You will undertake feasibility and outline design for projects within agreed timescales and budgets. You will create designs and specifications and support the wider design team to develop Severn Trent’s in-house design capability. On a day-to-day basis, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders and support various project delivery teams. You will undertake high-level appraisal and feasibility of conceptual designs to create innovative and efficient TOTEX solutions, undertaking the role of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM regulations. You will drive H&S, undertake risk management, challenge designs, and ensure that appropriate support is provided to the programme team so that the solution is delivered efficiently on time and in line with specifications.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Ideally qualified in a technical engineering or design-related discipline, and holding chartered engineer status, you will be an experienced principal design engineer with some experience in waste Infra design. You will have experience of providing designs and specifications for commercial negotiations and a proven track record of continuous development of innovative solutions in water treatment projects. You will have experience working with diverse skillsets and building capacity and mentoring other engineers. You will have extensive experience implementing CDM regulations in the design process and a strong understanding of risk management in construction and operational design. You will possess excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. You will be able to make educated judgments and decisions in the face of ambiguity, with a good grasp of the bigger picture, seeking opportunities to contribute to the wider agenda.

The right skills and experience are important, but if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude, we want to talk to you, too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, knowing that diverse minds, experiences, and backgrounds help us learn and better serve our communities.
