Our strategy is simple - We want to solve the challenges we have today as well as find answers to some of our industry’s bigger long-term challenges. Are you passionate about data and driving positive change in wastewater network management? Our Tactical Asset Planning (Investment planning) team are working day in day out to make it happen.

With that in mind, we’re looking for an Assistant Asset Engineer to help us unify and optimise our tactical asset planning. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute across various aspects of our Collaborative Tactical Asset Management (CTAM) approach, from solution development and asset management to sponsorship of initiatives and data-driven decision-making.

Do you have a blend of some of the relevant skills including Waste Networks Engineering, Data Analysis or Hydraulic Modelling? Are you adept at advanced data analysis and capable of utilising tools like Power BI to generate insightful reports? Or perhaps you have relevant experience with a degree in Engineering, a Scientific, or an Environmental Discipline?

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Asset Engineer to join our Tactical Asset Planning function. This role is crucial in supporting our shift towards a unified, data-driven approach to asset management in waste networks. As an Assistant Asset Engineer, you will play a central role in bringing together diverse perspectives and information to make informed decisions about our asset investments. You will contribute to the development and implementation of our tactical asset planning strategy, helping us move from siloed decision-making to a truly integrated system that prioritises interventions, optimises resource allocation, and enhances overall network performance.

This role is within wastewater networks infrastructure and you’ll support the Tactical Asset Planning Manager and Senior Asset Engineers. You will be responsible for conducting research, analysis, and overarching project management of financial, risk, and project-related data to ensure the best information is available for key investment decisions (technical, financial, and commercial feasibility). You will be instrumental in enabling the team to produce optimal lifecycle decisions, ensuring our assets are fit for the future.

Key responsibilities

  • Data Enabling: Assist with data collection, cleaning, and advanced analysis using tools like Power BI to identify trends, assess asset health, and uncover performance issues.
  • Asset Management Support: Contribute to understanding asset class behaviours, identifying risks, and supporting the development and maintenance of our 'live' Tactical Plan.
  • Solution Development Assistance: Support the development of short-term and 1-5 year tactical investment plans. This includes contributing to cost-benefit analyses.
  • Sponsorship Support: Assist in managing and tracking the delivery of approved solutions, developing clear timelines, milestones, and resource plans, and overseeing solution implementation and success.
  • Cross-Cutting Collaboration: Work collaboratively across different asset groupings (e.g., Gravity Collection Systems, Pumping Systems, Storage and Overflow Management, Stormwater Management Systems) to foster knowledge sharing and ensure holistic decision-making across the network.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses a blend of analytical and proactive skills. It’s key that you have strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and an understanding of project management/co-ordination processes. While knowledge of waste networks would be beneficial, skills or experience in the implementation and delivery of projects would be highly advantageous.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong Analytical Skills: You can turn data into insights that drive decision-making, with proficiency in data analysis tools like Power BI being a plus.
  • Collaborative Mindset: You enjoy working with diverse teams and disciplines to achieve common goals and contribute to shared knowledge.
  • Proactive Problem-Solver: You can identify potential issues and contribute to developing effective, holistic solutions.
  • Project Aptitude: You’re comfortable supporting project planning, coordination, and tracking, and have an understanding of project lifecycle management.
  • Passion for Making a Difference: You care about improving our wastewater network and the communities we serve through efficient and strategic asset management.
