We are a good humoured, nurturing practice who are looking for a similarly minded GP to join our team for 6 sessions. We value fairness in workload and strive to achieve a positive work/life balance and develop resilience across our practice team, despite the current pressure on primary care. We pride ourselves on a team approach to continued service improvement and encourage all to share their experiences, knowledge, and skills. We meet at the end of each morning surgery for coffee and biscuits, to chat, debrief and unwind, before continuing with the day.

Main duties of the job: We are looking for a candidate who can undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a salaried GP working within primary care.

About us: With a growing practice population of 9200 patients, we are within an easy commute from the centre of Bristol, and proximity to the M5 means we are just a short drive to some of the most picturesque parts of the British countryside. The team is warm, welcoming, loyal, and supportive. We are a teaching practice and welcome GP Trainees, GP retainers, Foundation Drs, Medical Students, and Nurse Students over the course of the year. We are a forward-thinking practice, taking an active part in driving innovation in close collaboration with our neighbouring 4 practices, as part of Severnvale PCN.

  • Physiotherapist, Social Prescribers, care co-ordinators, health and well-being coaches work alongside Clinicians.

We provide the medical cover for Henderson Rehabilitation Unit. We aim to keep GP workload manageable and take pride in the high level of care we offer within our practice. Informal visits are welcome. Please contact the Practice Manager via email.

Job responsibilities: The post-holder will manage their own caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including face to face consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. There are plenty of opportunities for developing other roles in the practice and we will be happy to support any CPD that would facilitate this.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Completion of GP vocational Training.
  • Experience: Completion of vocational training. Experience of contribution working with Partners towards QOF. Commitment to professional development/peer group learning.
  • Skills/Abilities: Excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to contribute to multi-professional working. Ability to work well within a Practice team. Evidence of accountability. Knowledge of IT clinical systems. Understanding of the principles of audit. Knowledge and understanding of range of primary care and community services. Understanding of issues involved in working across interface between primary and secondary care.
  • Other Requirements: Full registration with GMC and a recognised medical defence organisation. If appointed to post, the SGP must also be registered and approved on the Medical Performers List. Pre-employment checks - all SGPs will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to being approved to join the Medical Performers list. Have an interest in teaching. Flexibility of working extended hours.
