We have two exciting opportunities within our Distribution Service Delivery Team to become a Repair and Maintenance Operative (internally known as a Distribution Operative!).

Working in this role, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Severn Trent’s Underground Water network. You’ll be tasked with the upkeep of our Clean Water Network and any required repairs of our Clean Water Main Assets, furthermore you will be conducting excavation within public highways on Severn Trent sites and private lands. You’ll put the needs of our customers first, responding to and resolving any issues raised by our customers or members of the public. Your stakeholder management skills will also be used to liaise with other departments and our contract partners.

Within this role, every day is different, you’ll get to undertake the full range of duties involved in delivering an effective repair and maintenance service, including but not limited to:

  • the repair and replacement of existing water mains & ancillary assets
  • laying and working on valves, washouts & meters

As our new Distribution Operative, not only will you be operating machinery out on site, you’ll also be using up-to-date technology to help our back office with their data upkeep, so this really is a great opportunity to utilise and develop your skills all round!

Within this role you will be part of a rolling 7 week shift pattern (24/7, 365). Furthermore, this is an outdoor role, working in all weathers, so if you don’t mind being outside and love getting stuck right in, let me tell you more.

What We’re Looking For

A full UK driving license is needed as you will be required to independently travel to depots/bases. This role is physically demanding and will require an individual who has good strength and stamina. The ability to apply rational thinking and technical expertise to resolve complex challenges. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complicated technical messages in a simple way. A positive attitude with a strong customer focus are essential. We're looking for individuals who bring energy, empathy, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service in every interaction. Being able to demonstrate a strong duty of care is essential. A commitment to safety, responsibility, and respectful collaboration is key to maintaining high standards and protecting those impacted by our operations is essential.
