We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate individual who is ready to champion our rivers and drive positive change. If you have a knack for understanding large datasets and a passion for rivers, we want to hear from you!
As a Principal River Scientist, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our growing River Protection team and the wider business. We are dedicated to transforming the health of our rivers and providing valuable insights to our business both for short term and longer term decision making. The location of this role is flexible depending on where you live in the Severn Trent region. If you\’re based in or around the Midlands, we\’d love to hear from you.
Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a high-performing technical team of River systems scientists, ensuring effective data management and insightful analysis for diverse stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure effective data management and insights can be derived for a multitude of stakeholders and that data integrity and accuracy is maintained.
  • Oversee the analysis, interrogation and management of river quality data, sharing river insights in a meaningful way to match the wide range of audiences including, front-line teams and regulators.
  • Coordinate and Manage River data projects to ensure timely, accurate completion within budget.
  • Responsible for ensuring external and Internal reports remain accurate and informative.
  • To support external enquiries by providing reliable, accurate and complete data.
  • To share rivers insights in a meaningful way – this could be for a range of audiences including our front-line operational teams, communications teams, our Regulators or our customers.
  • To ensure the team provide robust river data packs for business Comm cells to enable everyone to see, understand and care about improving our Rivers.

In order to be successful in this role as our new Principle River Scientist, you should have a strong passion for rivers and an understanding of river systems. Essential qualifications include experience in data analytics, environmental science, and knowledge of the water industry. You must be adept at collaborating with stakeholders, prioritizing tasks, and managing a technical team. Desirable skills include expertise in environmental topics and data management.
