Overview

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design and technical delivery for major wastewater treatment and bioresources projects. You’ll act as the technical authority, guiding multi-disciplinary teams from feasibility to handover and ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards. You will foster engineering excellence, mentor engineers, and drive innovative, value-driven solutions. This role integrates with process, civil, and operations teams to deliver sustainable, compliant outcomes that support Severn Trent’s mission and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering solutions for wastewater and bioresources projects and act as technical authority
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to engineers and designers
  • Develop concepts through outline and detailed design, ensuring alignment with objectives and standards
  • Collaborate with Process, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, ICA, and Operations teams for design integration
  • Support design reviews, ALM, HAZOP, constructability reviews, and value engineering
  • Coordinate electrical design reviews and approvals to ensure compliance with standards
  • Provide construction and commissioning support, including resolving technical queries and aiding handover
  • Uphold safety and risk management in electrical designs and project delivery

Key requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or clear progress toward chartership
  • Extensive utilities project experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK water and wastewater processes, assets and standards
  • Experience delivering outline and detailed electrical design for complex infrastructure
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
