At Severn Trent, one of our key strategic objectives is to mitigate and respond to pollution incidents and potential events. Therefore, we now have a super exciting opportunity to join us as a Waste OCC Waste Controller!

This role is crucial in ensuring that all potential pollution events are expertly managed to protect the environment.

You will proactively monitor wastewater assets, prioritize and mitigate any asset failures, and ensure full compliance with regulatory and company standards, particularly our environmental commitments.

Your expertise in pollution response, environmental knowledge, and effective incident management skills will be vital. You will collaborate with various teams, including Operations, Customer, and our contract partners, serving as a critical link between the Environment Agency and Severn Trent in pollution response.

This is a 24/7 shift-based role, including weekends and bank holidays.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

In this role, you will:

  • Own Pollution Incidents: Ensure timely actions and risk considerations for all pollution incidents.
  • Develop Response Plans: Create effective response and contingency plans to minimize impacts like pollution, flooding, and blockages.
  • Prioritize and Escalate Risks: Use the incident manual to prioritize and escalate risks appropriately.
  • Coordinate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with stakeholders to meet legal and regulatory targets.
  • Ensure Timely Responses: Respond to incidents within defined SLAs, adjusting based on risk assessments.
  • Liaise with Regulatory Bodies: Act as the initial contact between Severn Trent and regulatory bodies like the Environment Agency.
  • Analyse Data: Interpret data from multiple sources to inform decision-making.
  • Support Impact Assessments: Capture and interpret pollution data to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Identify Corporate Risks: Recognize risks related to asset failures and operability.
  • Drive Performance: Apply root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
