Apprenticeship Programmes are a great way to earn and learn. Our Apprentice Waste Network Operations Programme offers the core of our business through personal and professional development.

You’ll be supported every step of the way. Your role will be to gain practical experience in a few teams and develop your knowledge of Severn Trent and its processes. This will help you communicate data effectively to a wide range of stakeholders and expose you to opportunities across our teams.

We welcome apprentices from diverse backgrounds and offer varied experiences, training, and development to support your future career.

You will be based at Staverton in Gloucester. The programme runs for 24 months, with 20 months of training and a 4-month End Point Assessment (EPA). During the programme you will gain on-site experience across waste networks and complete 2 in-role placements within our Customer and Environment teams.

  • Customer team: work with reactive operatives responding to customer call-outs and maintaining Severn Trent’s waste network. Learn to use jetting and vacuum equipment to support first-response tasks such as blockage clearance, pipe cleansing, and network surveying, while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Environment team: work with proactive technicians and technical experts maintaining assets on Severn Trent’s waste network. Learn to identify assets, understand how they work, support advanced problem diagnosis, and identify improvement opportunities to mitigate pollution risks.

You will study towards a Level 3 qualification in Water Industry Network Technician - Waste Water. Details about this standard are available via the referenced link; read this information before applying.

What You Will Learn

  • Learning how we maintain and repair our wastewater network
  • Ensuring our system operates efficiently to prevent blockages
  • Educating customers on the impact of fats, oils and greases and pro-active surveys to keep the network well maintained
  • Understanding how we respond to and investigate pollution incidents with care for the environment and customers

What We Are Looking For

We want people who care and have a genuine passion for our business. If you have the passion to succeed, you’ll be a great match for our programme. You’ll need:

  • Love of variety and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and solve problems quickly
  • Resilience to handle changing front-line conditions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multiple teams
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate it to different audiences
