Overview
Department: Capital Design Salary (£): Competitive Engineering Design Lead. Severn Trent’s Capital Design team works on a five-year programme with innovative projects aimed at tackling the challenges of delivering exceptional water and waste services, addressing flooding and river health, and benefiting customers and the environment. This role, Engineering Design Business Lead (also known as Technical Director, Regional Director or Framework Director), directs a design function undertaking feasibility, outline and (where appropriate) detailed designs for capital solutions to enable delivery of investments over the next five years. The role can be based at any of our capital hubs: Shrewsbury, Derby or Coventry.
What you’ll do
Reporting directly into the Head of Design, you’ll lead a team (direct reports) and work with external design houses and consultancies to deliver high-quality, efficient designs within the Capital Delivery works programme. You will be responsible for developing and nurturing a highly engaged, high-performing team and ensuring that both internal teams and external partners deliver innovative designs aligned with strategic goals.
- Develop and manage a resource-loaded programme to ensure quality, cost, and key milestone targets are met.
- Ensure your team discharges the role of Principal Designer under CDM Regulations.
- Oversee design work by external consultants and construction partners to meet relevant standards.
- Manage operating costs within authorised budgets.
- Foster strong industry relationships and research external best practices.
- Align designs with strategic goals to achieve carbon neutrality, enhance natural and social environments, provide value for money, meet programme milestones, and comply with all relevant strategies, policies, procedures, and standards.
