Apprenticeship Programmes are a great way to earn and learn. Our Apprentice Civil Engineer Programme offers the perfect blend of personal and professional development, exposing you to the core of our business. You’ll be supported every step of the way. Your role will be to gain practical experience in a few teams, developing your knowledge and understanding of Severn Trent and the processes. This will enable you to further develop your skills so you can communicate data effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders.
You’ll spend time with our design teams, working on projects such as the Water Industry National Environment (WINE) Programme, focused on reducing spills from Combined Sewer Overflows and enhancing the environment through our £1.5 billion investment. You’ll collaborate with project delivery, asset management and operations teams to ensure we deliver the best possible service to our project sponsor.

You will be based at Pride Park in Derby, the heart of our patch. The programme requires you to complete placements within design and project teams, gaining exposure in different areas so you are equipped with the right skills to build your career here at Severn Trent. In this programme, you will have 1-1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study buddy, the cohort leader, and the New Talent Team to discuss your development and career ambitions. You will study towards a Level 6 qualification in Civil Engineer.
You will expand your knowledge of:
- Defining engineering constraints.
- Identifying risks and resolving them through design.
- Contributing to safe and sustainable technical solutions through reports, drawings, calculations, and models.

Apprenticeship Level: 6
Apprenticeship Duration: 60 months (this does not include EPA period)
Starting Salary: £23,500
Entry Criteria: 3 A-Levels including a STEM related subject or a relevant Level 3 qualification at grades AAB
Driving Requirements: A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is required for this role. Some sites are in remote locations and not serviced by public transport; please consider this before applying. You will be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, across a 7:00am – 3:30pm, 7:00am – 3:00pm, or 8:00am – 4:00pm pattern.
