As a key member of our Transport division within Customer Solutions, you will play an important role in shaping commercial, operational, and financial performance. Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, you will provide insightful analysis, robust decision support, and constructive challenge to senior stakeholders. In this role, you will help drive both in-year performance and long‑term AMP planning, ensuring strong financial governance and promoting a culture of outcome‑focused performance across the business. This is an excellent opportunity to partner closely with operational teams, influence strategic decisions, and help deliver value across the Transport function.
Responsibilities
- Financial & Operational Support: Provide financial support for Transport cost centres, including month‑end close activities and promoting effective cost control. Build strong, trusted relationships with cost centre managers to help achieve in‑year performance targets. Lead the budget-setting process for your areas of responsibility. Support the annual business planning process, working with stakeholders to gather inputs and deliver high‑quality financial modelling.
- Insight, Reporting & Forecasting: Conduct detailed variance analysis, identifying emerging risks and opportunities, and translating findings into clear insights. Prepare accurate and well‑reasoned monthly forecasts, ensuring planned activity is reflected in financial projections. Deliver clear monthly performance reporting across opex, capex, and income to central finance and key Customer Solutions stakeholders. Ensure accurate cost allocation in line with regulatory accounting guidelines during the annual reporting cycle. Produce and deliver engaging presentations with minimal support.
- Commercial Impact & Continuous Improvement: Support and influence commercially beneficial decisions by considering both financial and non‑financial factors. Understand the operational drivers behind financial and non‑financial data, ensuring data integrity. Provide ad‑hoc modelling and analytical support as required. Help embed a culture of continuous improvement and strong performance management.
How We Work
You’ll be based at our Severn Trent Centre in Coventry. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week. So, you’ll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported, when you need it.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Experience: Previous finance experience in a similar role. A track record of diagnosing business issues and delivering insights that drive performance improvement. The ability to present clear recommendations that support strategic decision‑making. Strong relationship‑building skills across diverse business areas. Experience supporting or driving continuous improvement initiatives. Strong capabilities in MS Office, SAP ECC, and BI tools.
- Capabilities: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work through complex issues and ensure actions are followed through. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify complexity and offer clear direction. The ability to generate meaningful insights, clearly articulate risks and opportunities, and highlight key performance drivers. Confidence to advise, guide, and constructively challenge stakeholders when needed. A collaborative working style, helping build a culture of shared learning and best practice. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage high‑volume workloads, conflicting priorities, and tight deadlines. Strong commercial awareness and sound financial judgement. A solid understanding of financial control processes.
Qualifications: Fully or part‑qualified in a recognised accountancy qualification (e.g., ACA, CIMA, ACCA).
