Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.
Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care. With a greater focus on our regulatory compliance, it is increasingly important that we continue to drive high assurance standards across the Severn Trent Group. Our objective is to ensure that we continue to meet, and exceed, our regulatory reporting, licence, and statutory obligations and that we have an effective and efficient Assurance Framework to support and challenge.
We have two permanent vacancies to join our Group Compliance Risk & Assurance team as an Assurance Specialist, where you’ll be responsible for supporting the Group Assurance Manager in providing regulatory assurance expertise, delivering best practice across the group, and undertaking the verification of first and second line assurance activity while managing third line assurance providers.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders across the Group.
- Gain knowledge of the business and regulatory environment to identify and mitigate assurance risks.
- Collaborate with assurance providers to ensure appropriate assurance is scoped and completed before regulatory submission deadlines, securing necessary buy-in from senior stakeholders.
- Verify first and second line assurance activities, ensuring regular controls and assurance checks are implemented to drive right-first-time outcomes.
- Manage external third line assurance providers to achieve the right balance of assurance activities and review outputs to ensure appropriate understanding of outcomes.
- Monitor and report on the status of assurance actions being addressed by the business.
- Assess the effectiveness of activities undertaken to address identified risks.
- Proactively seek improvements to processes and controls.
How we work:
You’ll be based at our Severn Trent Centre in Coventry. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week. You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. So, you’ll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported when you need it.
What we’re looking for:
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should ideally have experience in and a strong understanding of assurance processes, regulatory documentation, and project management. You should be adept at building effective relationships across all levels of an organisation and delivering improvement initiatives. Key capabilities include attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to produce high-quality work under pressure. Strong communication, collaboration, and influencing skills are also essential.
How we’ll reward and care for you:
It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential.
