This role shapes the long‑term direction of the IRT by planning future capability growth, operational capacity, and overall service resilience. You will set and review key performance metrics—including speeding, harsh braking, vehicle checks, driver books, pollution prevented, and response times—to drive performance improvement and training priorities. With responsibility for audits, reporting, and governance, the role also identifies emerging risks, opportunities, and resource needs to keep the IRT compliant, future‑ready, and aligned with organisational growth.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure full DVSA and O ‑ Licence compliance, lead audits, maintain documentation, and provide clear reports to senior leadership.
- Strategy & Operational Development: Drive future IRT growth, efficiency, and deployment strategies, working closely with planning and operational teams.
- Performance & Continuous Improvement: Monitor driver behaviour and KPIs, identify improvement opportunities, and support investigations into compliance or safety issues.
- Training & People Leadership: Deliver compliance and safety training, maintain competency records, and lead a high ‑ performing team through coaching and development.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You’ll bring expert knowledge of UK transport legislation and O ‑ Licence compliance, along with the proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast ‑ paced, reactive environment. For this role it is essential that you hold a Transport Manager CPC qualification. Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

- Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250, which is subject to eligibility)
- Family‑friendly policies (including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave)
- Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
