Apprenticeship Programmes are a great way to earn and learn! Our Electro-Mechanical Engineer Apprentice Programme offers the perfect blend of learning whilst doing. Entering an apprenticeship scheme with us involves working towards the role of a fully-fledged professional, earning a salary, whilst also being able to maintain a sense of academic achievement. At Severn Trent we provide the perfect mix between hands-on experience and a formal qualification, enabling our apprentices to make a real lasting difference to our customers and communities, not just for now, but far into the future.
As an Apprentice Electro-Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of opportunities through working with the Engineering and Project teams. You’ll learn how to assess the performance of our assets and to make recommendations which ensure they are operated in the most effective and efficient way. You will work collaboratively across our teams in the development and delivery of improvement activities which will be completed within defined timescales and to budget. Supported by our teams, you will learn to apply our stringent quality, environmental and safety standards which are vital to success.
You’ll be supporting colleagues to help create a fair and equitable working environment where everyone can succeed by:
- Interacting with stakeholders
- Interacting with the project manager, engineering team members, technical specialists, laboratory and site-based technicians, senior managers, plus other internal teams such as customer services, production, finance, health and safety, quality
- Designing or redesigning electro-mechanical products or systems to fulfil customer and technical requirements. The design must consider the interface between the mechanical and electrical elements of the product
- Identifying technical requirements for electro-mechanical projects or systems
- Developing, defining and executing testing of products
- Communicating information, progress, risks and issues at all levels of the business
For this Apprenticeship Programme (Level 6) we require all candidates to have:
- At least Grade B in A level Mathematics (or equivalent), and two additional A levels at Grade B (or equivalent). The following A levels are not accepted: Citizenship Skills, General Studies and Critical Thinking.
- Relevant engineering BTEC qualification, preceding level apprenticeship or equivalent demonstrable work experience in the occupational area.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS POST APPRENTICESHIP
By the end of this programme, you will take up a role as an Assistant Electrical or Mechanical Design Engineer.
TRAVEL/LICENCE REQUIREMENT
The Programme may require you to work in different locations throughout our region. Some of our sites cannot be reached directly by public transport. Mobility is hugely important as a regional employer and the need to travel to our other business sites will be required at times and help to enhance the learning you’ll have on programme. You will need to have a full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle upon starting your apprenticeship.
