At Severfield, we’re creating better ways to build for a world of changing demands. We have a fantastic opportunity for a NPI Project Engineer. Our commercial & industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education. The division has manufacturing sites in Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen, each with full-service capabilities and modern manufacturing processes enabling us to provide a high-quality product to a variety of sectors. Each site has its own strong reputation and together cover a wider geographical area, including Europe.
What you will do
Working in the New Project Introduction team as Project Engineer, you will act as a conduit to all areas of the business involved in project delivery, taking ownership from tender handover through to production, ensuring all specifications, customer requirements, and production criteria are adhered to. This is a varied and hands-on position, covering all aspects of end-to-end project delivery, and acting as the vital link between project management, design, planning, quality and manufacturing.
You will ensure projects are technically and operationally ready — from validating specifications and drawings to checking equipment, tooling, and labour capability. With strong stakeholder management skills, you’ll coordinate across sales, design, procurement, and production, driving projects forward and resolving issues before they impact delivery.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Reviewing client specifications, contracts, and engineering drawings to identify critical deliverables.
- Coordinating with design, engineering, and production teams to resolve technical queries.
- Ensuring equipment, tooling, and workforce capability align with project demands.
- Analysing factory work content and supporting labour profiling with production managers and HR.
- Identify potential production or process risks early in the NPI stage and implement mitigation strategies.
- Acting as the single point of coordination between internal stakeholders and project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, increasing manufacturing efficiency and quality.
- Advise sales and estimating teams on contract costing prior to tender submission, including setup costs, production hours, and resource requirements.
Required Skills And Experience
- Apprentice trained in fabrication and welding or degree in Engineering, with a strong practical understanding of steelwork processes.
- Proven experience in project engineering within a similar environment.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and fabrication standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management and strong communicator with the ability to challenge and present ideas and solutions.
- Strong organisational skills and a problem-solving mindset.
