Overview
Vacancy for an Estimator in Severfield’s Commercial & Industrial Division. The role is primarily based at the Lostock office near Bolton, with flexibility on primary location for the right candidate. Regular attendance at the Lostock office is required on Mondays to support team collaboration and tender coordination. Our division designs, fabricates, and constructs structural steelwork for sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail, health and education. Manufacturing sites are located in Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen, offering full-service capabilities and modern processes.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models to prepare detailed take-offs for structural steel packages.
- Assess material requirements, labour, fabrication and installation methods; request, evaluate, and compare subcontractor quotations for bought-out items.
- Collaborate with Senior Estimators and the wider team to contribute to tender submissions; ensure estimates are robust and commercially sound and aligned with construction methods.
- Work with design, production, and project management teams to reflect current market conditions, fabrication processes, labour rates, and industry standards in estimates.
- Support handover after tender award to ensure continuity from bid to project delivery.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, engineers, and suppliers to clarify scope, resolve queries, and support pre- and post-tender meetings.
Key Skills & Experience
- Keen interest in the construction industry with awareness of structural steelwork, fabrication, and structural form.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills; ability to interpret general arrangement drawings, detail drawings, and 3D models.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, manage large information volumes, and make decisions with incomplete information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications; collaborative attitude and willingness to learn and develop.
- Background in engineering, construction, or related technical disciplines is preferred; relevant industry experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications.
