Our Nuclear & Infrastructure division has extensive experience in the specialist, highly regulated nuclear, transport (road and rail), process industries and power and energy sectors. This gives a mix of proven success along with modern, innovative design and fabrication ideas to be able to provide a quality, specialised service to a growing market. In the Quality Engineer position, you will play a critical role in maintaining quality assurance processes, supporting project delivery, and ensuring all documentation and procedures meet both client and regulatory expectations.
Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Develop, review, and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring verification activities are clearly defined and effectively implemented.
- Compile, manage, and review Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs), ensuring full traceability and compliance.
- Maintain and control quality documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project and client standards.
- Support project teams in adhering to nuclear quality standards, embedding quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and supply chain teams to ensure quality expectations are understood and achieved.
- Attend off-site inspections in Whitehaven, working collaboratively with clients to ensure compliance, identify improvements, and agree outcomes.
- Produce surveillance reports and contribute to the development of new procedures.
- Ensure documentation is suitable for security clearance and regulatory review.
- Conduct internal audits and surveillances to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage and review subcontractor quality documentation.
- Maintain and submit key documentation including:
- Notices of Inspection (NOIs)
- Welding procedures
- Calibration certificates
- Welding consumables records
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), providing technical input and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support site management with handover documentation and as-built drawings.
Key Skills & experience The ideal candidate will be required to collate and analyse data, support with audits, and liaise with clients, so it is also essential that you have an eye for detail and enjoy analytical work.
Ideally, you’ll have a good level of education and will have an HND, HNC or equivalent (NVQ 4) in Engineering and / or Construction or be a time-served engineer. Nuclear experience is preferred but not essential.
In addition, you’ll have extensive hands‑on experience in Quality Management Systems and Principles, a recognised auditing qualification, will possess CSWIP 3.1, as well as exposure to interpreting and accepting contract NDT reports on behalf of a business and be suitably qualified (PCN Level 2).
Strong experience in a quality engineering role within a highly regulated environment (ideally nuclear, construction or engineering).
