Your work will focus on helping refugee families settle confidently into life in Britain, providing guidance, encouragement, and practical support as they work toward independence and integration. You’ll be a key link helping them navigate everyday challenges and build a new life.
Key Responsibilities
- Help newly arrived families settle in and pass on requests for help and equipment.
- Oversee the welfare and changing requirements of the family, reducing support as they gain independence.
- Liaise with local government support workers (Refugee Council) as needed.
- Coordinate with the team around the family—general support, language and education—moderate a WhatsApp group for all volunteers.
- Encourage and monitor the family’s path to independence.
- Liaise with Education, Language and Employment specialists.
- Keep the Volunteer Leadership Team (VLT) Family Support Lead up to date as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental.
- Good communicator, both in writing and in person.
- Organised, with strong attention to detail.
- Flexible and culturally sensitive to varying family needs.
- Reasonably confident with IT tools (email, shared files, online forms, etc.).
- At least 3 years’ experience in public relations, volunteer management, and safeguarding.
- Background in health, teaching, social services or other service‑related charities preferred but not essential.
